ALUMNI of the N.I.T. Kurukshetra. It was during the mid-nineteen seventies when the alumni association of our institute, then Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra, came into being as RECKOBA (Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra Old Boys Association). It was on humble beginning with Prof. B.K. Kaul and Dr. A.K. Kachroo as the first President and Secretary, respectively. The membership was open to all the graduates and faculty of the College on payment of a sum of Rs. 25/-. However, very soon the membership was extended to all the students who had obtained an approved degree course from the institute and the faculty. Later, with the entry of substantial number of girl students to the college, a need to change the name of the association was felt. Various names including RECKOSA, Alumni Association etc. were suggested and finally Alumni Association, RECK Alumni, was finalized. Then with the change over of RECK to NITK, i.e., Regional to National, Engineering to Technology and College to Institute, today our association stands as Alumni Association National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, short named as NITK Alumni. It is a registered body whose strength has crossed the five-figure mark. The Association has a written constitution. Among the various objectives of the Association enshrined in the written document, the major objective is to promote and encourage fraternity among the alumni. The affairs of the Association are managed by an Executive Committee which strives to act in accordance with the directions given by the General Body. General Body meeting takes place once in an year while the Executive Committee meets at least quarterly. The EC comprises of 12 members including the Patron. Director of the Institute is the ex-officio Patron of the Association and the remaining eleven members are elected by the General Body for a two-year term. Since the office of the Association is housed in the Institute, the President and Secretary are preferred to be from the Institute itself, as a convention. The source of finance for the Association is the subscription of Rs. 100/- by each student admitted to an approved degree course in the institute. Funds also keep pouring in through contributions from the alumni, for instance, a group of 76 & 77 Batch students who came to attend the G.B. function, donated a sum of Rs. 25000/- and Rs. 11,000/- respectively to the kitty of Association. Thanks also to the former Presidents who have created some corpuses which are giving funds on perpetual basis. Among the various activities of the Association, we have
As one-time activities we have advised various institutions like Guru Jhambeshwar University, Hisar, YMCA, Faridabad, CRCE, Murthal, JIET, Jind, Govt Polytechnics in Haryana to establish their respective alumni associations. Among the other activities to be commenced in near future are instituting awards for the Best B. Tech. Project work for each branch of engineering and an award for the Alumni of the year through nominations. Our Association is enriched by the presence of various Chapters in the nearby region. Delhi has a strong chapter by the name of RECK FORUM. They have a separate Directory in black & white. Chandigarh Chapter is a glorious Chapter-meeting annually. Similarly Chapters in Yamuna Nagar, Ambala and Karnal are also doing very well. Our alumni have risen vertically and horizontally alike. First and foremost the personalities like Padamshri Rakesh Bakshi, Gopal Ansal, Pawan K. Munjal, Srini Raju, M.P. Singh, Adesh Gupta, need a special mention.
